Born above the commotion of Berlin's backstreets during a marathon of collaborative studio sessions late 2007, Caroline Ekström and Robin Hannibal shaped their songs and sounds which later continued to develop during 2008 between Copenhagen, Stockholm and the power of file sharing.
Steeped in rhythm and sublime melody that draw upon elements as diverse as 80's funk, deep house, disco, pop, soulful electronica and hints of folk, the music of IOU transcends beyond labels and stereotypes and transports those lucky enough to be on the other end of the stereo cable to another dimension of musical context. A lot of thought was put in to the name of their duo, but the final decision came down to a feeling that they owe it to the world to share their music - like an I.O.U. Musical Background Caroline Ekström is an exciting soulful vocalist and lyricist out of Stockholm fronting this duo. Recently she's worked with UK production team Part Time Heroes that resulted in the EP “Adventures”, Brazil funk duo Modo Solar, deephouse project LeftGuster (Lefthander & Pete Gust) and just released an album with Swedish jazz/bossa quartet The Moleskins. Robin Hannibal out of Copenhagen got his big breakthrough as a writer and producer a few years back with the release of the debut album from Owusu & Hannibal on Ubiquity, hailed as one of the most innovative soul records in recent years. Robin continued to work on projects like Boom Clap Bachelors (favored by Gilles Peterson), Non + and with artists such as Aloe Blacc, Eska, Blackalicious, Ty, Sarah Ann Webb from D'Influence and Erick Sermon of EPMD. Comments about the Hot & Cold Remix by Diesler: "Nice one. like the old-school house vocal chop-shop treatment. Scandinavian dancefloor heat, brighton style!!" NON+ 1 OF THE FOUR WINNERS OF THE DANISH NATIONAL RADIO P3'S KARRIERE KANONEN (THE CAREER CANON)
This news is some months old - old but great news! - but for people visiting the blog we thought it would be a good idea to post it again here goes:
Congratulations to Robin,Ronni from Boom Clap Bachelors and Tuco
Here is what the judges had to say:
"Non + stands out so much among Danish upcoming bands - they play a special kind of funky pop, and embark on a dangerous territory when they borrow from the polished American West Coast sound and mix with a little 80s kitch pop . But fear not! Non + show great charm, and the many compelling hits go straight into the legs. Hop on the bandwagon, take a whirl, and forget all worries in the company of Denmark tightest band and the two charming singers!

Already getting major attention and rightly so the PDE have all the potential to be 2009's underground crossover act.
Press release:
Yam Who? proudly present their new record label ISM & its debut release from the Parallel Dance Ensemble. Already getting major attention and rightly so the PDE have all the potential to be 2009's underground crossover act. The brainchild of Robin Hannibal from Osuwu & Hannibal fame on Ubiquity Records this is his penultimate creation. Slightly reminiscent of the 80's groups Tom Tom Club, Pop Group and the Bush Tetras but sounding totally futuristic like MIA or those upstarts the New Young Pony Club. "Pizza Turtle Cadillac" features Coco Solid, a New Zealand born MC who has been rocking the airwaves for some time whilst also performing alongside the likes of Sway, Spankrock and SA-RA. The hilarious tongue in cheek joint "Weight Watchers" has all the hall marks of the early Soft Cell material with Cindy Ectasy. Slightly sinister, funny as hell, with a funky lyrical flow and damn sassy too! Rounding up the package are the Yam Who? reworks. Ruff electronic disco funk is the only way to sum up their production for PDE. Retro, futuristic with touches of magic cosmic love dust and already receiving play from James Murphy (LCD), Maurice Fulton, Horse Meat Disco, Faze Action, Lindstrum, Prins Thomas, Metro Area & Daniel Wang. Also have a look at the great video for Turtle Pizza Cadillac :And the making of this awesome video:
